As long and stagnant as I stood,
I watched a seed, to sapling grow
Into the largest in the wood-
And perched atop it sat a Crow.
“Corvid brother,” said I, cooing,
“Have you nothing to take care of?
Perhaps some business you need doing,
Some mischief I am not aware of?”
But even as clever as Crows can be,
This one uttered no response.
He crooked his neck and gazed at me,
Comparing our two haunts
Awhile, I sat there pondering.
How long it was, I do not know.
I resolved to go on wandering,
But as I turned, I heard the Crow
And as clever as I e’er may be,
To this, I just had no response.
I crooked my neck to look at he
From the lower of our haunts.
“Sapient brother,” said he, cooing,
“Have you nothing to take care of?
Perhaps some business you need doing,
Some mischief I am not aware of?”
And so his mocking wisdom, hurled,
Inspired me to always grow,
And never idle in the world,
And tell the story of the Crow.
